According to the American Marketing Association, BRANDING is "a name, term, design, symbol, or a combination of them, intended to identify the goods or services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiates them from the competitors”
BRAND IDENTITY is very important. Keeping the look and feel of your brand consistent should be a priority in order to build brand recognition.
An example is McDonald's and their logo, famously known as the Golden Arches. They've kept it consistent through the years and today we recognize the brand just by that golden letter M.
Once you've created solid branding, how do you get your brand out there?
That's where MARKETING comes in. Oxford Languages defines marketing as "the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising."
You need to create DEMAND for your product or service and having beautiful branding definitely helps!
Going back to McDonald's, they offer a Dollar Menu with items for one, two or three dollars. They made sure anyone can buy a quick and cheap meal for just a few dollars as part of their marketing strategy.
Sometimes, branding can be used to generate awareness and notoriety without the expenses of a large- scale marketing campaign - as long as it connects with your audience.
The two definitely overlap and one thing we know for sure is that using great branding together with a well- thought-out marketing plan can give any business a winning edge.
